Paan - the beloved Indian betalnut leaf bundle filled with a rose petal jam, fennel, lime, areca nut, cathechu is enjoyed after most Indian meals. However eating one takes time and stained teeth! Below is a version that gives you the same taste as a meetha paan without the chewing and stains! Its a wonderful after meal drink-dessert which is enjoyed by one and all... This portion makes about 4 portions.
Ingredients:
5 betelnut leaves (buy the sweet variety of leaf - mitha pan ka patta)
1/2 cup milk
1 scoop vanilla icecream
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 teaspoon gulkand (Rose petal jam)
Remove the central stem and veins (petiole and midrib) from the betelnut leaves. Roughly chop them. Add the fennel seeds, gulkand, and half the milk and blend. When it is a fine paste, add the rest of the milk and the icecream. Taste once to see if you want to add more gulkand for sweetness. Blend well and serve immediately.
